Blast from the Past
In early September, my Mom and Dad paid us a great visit. They were so much help in making our transition to work/school. As they are also champion players, Alec had a blast everyday for the whole week that they were here. Here are some shots taken early in the visit at none other than the horse track where Alec was fed very sweet ice cream by his grandmom and got his first experience with "paying the money to the man" in exchange for a ticket.
The Perfect Pumpkin
As you can see, these two men were serious about finding the perfect pumpkin. After a few failed attempts (see Alec trying to lift the rather large pumpkin) we settled on one large and one small from this particular farm. Much to Alec's dismay, Daddy did the carrying. Alec assures us that next year, things will be different.
Obey the Signs ... Or Not
Here you have all the evidence you need that this boy cares nothing for posted warnings. I was as shocked as you probably are to see that Alec was completely prepared to run through the pumpkins, climb on the pumpkins, and generally disrespect the pumpkins, despite signage to the contrary. In his defense, the pictures demonstrate that he was being chased.
Tricks and Treats
Just in case you thought we didn't have any fun around here ... here are some of the tricks and treats we have going on today. The winking pumpkin, courtesy of Alec and Daddy, has proven to be a crowd pleaser, and the de-licious cupcakes (specifically requested by Alec as his contribution to his school's halloween party) are the product of a great deal of hard labour by both Mommy (because she baked them) and Daddy (because he kept Alec occupied during the baking process).

Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving to all! Alec enjoyed his holiday for sure. He had so much good company this weekend, and went on so many adventures, that even a fever and cough couldn't bring him down.
Here are a few cute things he said or did this weekend:
- Sometimes, he refers to his grandparents as Mommy's Mommy or Daddy's Daddy or whatever the case may be (he is almost never mistaken in this). Yesterday, while getting strapped into his carseat, he looked at Alan and said "Where's your Daddy, Daddy?".
- Now that Alec is accustom to being woken by me from his naps or in the morning, he'll often say "5 more minutes, Mommy?" - so like a teenager would.
- He loves to sing the "There are 7 days in a week song" to an audience.
- To his 12-year old cousin this weekend, Alec said "I have a poopy bum Greame. Greame, would you change my bum?" Undeterred by laughter, he ran from me (once the bum was clean but the clean diaper not yet on), clutching the clean diaper and assumed bum-change position in front of all three of his older cousins, who then performed a joint bum change.
- To me Alec said (incrediously) "Mommy, Malcolm's shirt is ripped". Turns out he was refering to the shirt design - apparently not worth the designer-dosh in his view.
