A Dream Come True

During our Florida vacation, we visited two Disney parks - the Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, in that order. These pictures were taken at Hollywood Studios - by far the lower key (for us) of the two parks. At Hollywood Studios, a lot of the characters are "located" in one big room with individual line ups to visit each one. Lotso was the big draw in the room on the day we were there (besides Mickey himself, of course). Alec was ready to leave the park by the time we reached the room, and seeing more costumed characters didn't change things. Magical though it all is, he was wise by then to the fact that a long line up would be involved, and that the reward for reaching the front of such a line was the joy (or lack thereof) of posing for a picture with the character. This is a summary of conversation as we surveyed the inside of the room:

Alec (sincerely): "It's LOTSO. Wow. It's a dream come true."

Me: "Wow. I'm excited too. Should we go see him?"

Alec: (without any hesitation): "Nah, I'd like to go back to the cottage."

We stopped for a water break in the room, nearby Lotso's spot. Miraculously, LOTSO took a short break and the line-er-up-ers dispersed to other lines. When Lotso returned, a whole 4 minutes later, the line was extremely (by Disney at March Break standards) short. So we compromised, I stood in the line while he played with a touch computer located where I could see him at all times. When it was his turn, I called him up and Lotso gave both of us a surprise by doing a lot more than just posing for a picture - he gave Alec a high five, fooled him with the high five/take your hand away right at the last second trick, hugged him, tickled him, snuggled him and returned him to me a lot more excited than he got him. Good job Lotso!

Stop! In the Name of Love.

One last one. Sue me.

Valentines Day, Again

I'm thinking we better wrap up this Valentine's Day thread.

Then Sleep Cometh

Even Jedi must rest.

Crafty Treat

If you are into Star Wars (which I'm pretty sure that no one who reads this blog actually is), you will appreciate this concoction representing Ewoks in their native forest, made with the simple tools of graham crackers, broccoli spears and Teddy Grahams.

Picture This!

Imagine it. It's your birthday. You are minding your own business at home. Your son calls to you from another room. You walk nearer to him. You see he is holding a pie. You think, "how sweet, he made me a pie". You get closer. Your son says "smell the pie Dad". Eager to oblige (and keen to learn the flavour of said pie), you bend down and put your nose very close to the pie. Splat!

Bring on the Bunnies

In February, we took the Alec-gator for his first ski experience. He showed a lot of enthusiasm for the sport, tempered somewhat by the foot pinching pain of the ski boots. He was glad to ride the lifts (reported by him afterward as being the "best part"), and hit the slopes with his ski instructor Emily. He did run into some trouble due to one leg being stronger than the other (causing him to veer to the right, a lot) and about 45 mins into the lesson, he called to me over his shoulder "Mom - signing me up for this ski lesson wasn't too good of an idea". Still, he was full of confidence after the fact, replying to someone who said that he could learn even more the next time by sticking out his chest and reporting "Are you kidding? I already know Pizza, Little Pizza and French Fries". We'll be back in 2012.

Birthday Party Loot

Last weekend Alec attended a b-day party for a classmate held in the party room of a grocery store where he made, among other things, this materpiece. It was so tasty, this picture is all that remains.
