Those Pesky Teachers

Alec has come out with a few humdingers about his teachers recently. Here are a couple:

One day, out of nowhere:

"Miss Michelle is a lovely and kind teacher. But she does get mad if you hit your friend".

One day, when asked how he enjoyed a piano recital given at his school, he replied:

"Yes, but the worst part was the talking"

Me: "Oh, who was talking"

Alec: "Miss Jan"

Me: "What was she saying?"

Alec: "She Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Alec!"

Another non-behavior related exchange with his Dad was:

Alec's Dad: "Alec, who is the tallest girl in your class?"

Alec: "Miss Michelle."

Love is in the Air

Valentine's Day must be coming because love is in the air. There is a particular little girl in the Alecgator's class at school with whom he is quite smitten. He let the cat out of the bag near Halloween when he raved about her princess costume and came out with, quite emphatically, "and I didn't touch it". He referred to her as "pretty" the other day (I don't even know how he knows what pretty is) and says that he plans to give her a Valentines card (he understands a bit about Valentine's cards from some Valentine-themed books we recently borrowed from the library). Last week, he said that she said "you should come to my house and watch TV". I guess it's mutual.

I Do Not Give You ...

... a picture of Alec holding the sign properly. I guess the call of the sprinkles was too much for him. Happy Birthday anyway Grampie!

I Give You ...

... a very well planned birthday sign for Alec's Grampie. The reason I say it was well planned is that Alec was very particular about its specifications. He requested a triangle; he requested blue because, according to him, his Grampie likes orange, he likes blue and this is (with emphasis) his birthday sign for his Grampie. Once all that was made clear, he threw in a curve ball - sprinkles. I guess he was righly thinking that sprinkles are for special things so clearly use of sprinkles was warranted here. More will follow in the next post.

The Big Event Part 3

The Big Event Part 2

The Big Event

Here are some photographs of the part of our trip that Alec has talked about the most. Needless to say, Alec got a huge thrill riding a bulldozer with his Grampie. More photos will follow in a second post.

Best Present of All

Alec's greatest Christmas present of all (besides the pleasure of company of family and friends, of course) was received when we first arrived in N.S. It is a real super duper working digger, made especially for him, and he professed love for it at first sight. I'm sorry to say that he had no patience with me taking this picture, however, what he did want was for me to move the accompanying big dump truck back and forth between his scoop and the "dumping place."

Old Barns

One of the things my wise husband suggested we do in N.S. was to visit my Grampie's homestead to get some pics of Alec with the barn that is still standing there. It was great to visit there even though Alec was in no mood to pose and the lighting was bad due to time of day. The thing Alec really did want to do, however, was to get in the barn, so we did get some photos of his many attempts at that.

Christmas Night Ambush

The pictures tell the whole story here.

Christmas Day

As you can see from the pictures, the hats were a huge hit!

Christmas Morning

Christmas morning was a blast this year. Alec and his Auntie wore matching pajamas and enjoyed the new presents together. Alec's first words in surveying the scene that Santa left behind was "Oh my goodness, I've never seen this before." It sure was a good time.

A Party Animal

Here you see what was, in Alec's own words, the best Christmas party he went to all year. It was held at his Great Grandmom's house and offered three major draws - christmas carols played live (including by him on the tambourine), party food and a 15-year old second cousin named Courtney. When it was time to go he took Courtney by the hand, looked her in the eye and said, "can you come with us?". A long struggle ensued to dress the boy and put him in his car seat. What a party animal!

Another Tractor Shot

Later that very same day ...

Later that same day, Alec was treated to a full size tractor ride. At first, Alec had trepidations and declined to get on. Once he worked up the courage, his first words after climbing on were "this sure is a big tractor ..." Just moments later, I could hear him squeal each time the scoop rose and, sure enough, he declined to disembark (with conviction) when the time came.

So Many Highlights

There are so many wicked things I could write about our trip to N.S. As always, our family welcomed us with open arms and gave us royal treatment for a week.
One of the big highlights for Alec was visiting the raceway with his auntie and I to see one of his heros in action and even have a long awaited ride on a real life Gator. On the way out, Alec protested that he couldn't leave as he had "all these horses to look after".
